Energy Efficiency- Home Electronics
Home office equipment, audio and video systems, and various electronics consume almost 20 percent of all electricity used inside an average home. While buying more efficient devices can save money on operational costs, changing how you use the equipment is even more effective.
Utilize the power management options on your computer system. For example keep your computer in “sleep” mode when not in use. Also consider turning it off completely. Contrary to popular beliefs, turning a computer on and off is not harmful. Enabling such options can save as much as 60-80 percent of the energy that would have been wasted.
Consider plugging all your entertainment equipment into a power strip which, when switched off, will eliminate any standby draw from these devices. This has the added benefit of protecting your equipment from possible power surges. Purchasing efficient devices and simply changing our patters of use with electronics can result in economic and energy savings.
