2019 Youth Tour Contest


Hard work has paid off for four high school juniors as they make plans to tour the nation’s capital this summer. Tayten Lierle of Hydro-Eakly High School, Caden Schaufele and Jenny Hoyle of Hobart High School and Baylee Doney of Fletcher High School took top took top honors in the CKenergy Electric Cooperative Youth Tour Contest. Each of these winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. and a $500 scholarship.

Tayten is the daughter of Justin and Brianna Lierle of Hydro. Caden is the son of Brad and Julie Schaufele of Hobart. Jenny is the daughter of George and LaJeanna Hoyle of Hobart and Baylee is the daughter of Mark and Chris Ann Doney of Elgin. The four high school juniors will have an opportunity to become acquainted with other prominent young people from all across Oklahoma, as well as those from other states. Not only will they learn about rural electric cooperatives, they will have a better insight of American history and government. The students will meet Congressmen and Senators and tour historical sights in and around Washington D.C.

Runners-up in the contest were Camryn Nickel and Cloie Banks of Cordell High School, Madison Griffin of Fort Cobb-Broxton High School and Chad Norman of Hobart High School. Camryn is the daughter of Monte and Carmen Nickel of Bessie. Cloie is the daughter of Clint and Cindy Banks of Rocky. Madison is the daughter of Nancy and Mitchell Griffin of Fort Cobb. Chad is the son of Matthew and Debbie Norman of Hobart. The runners-up will receive a $500 scholarship.

The Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives has been an active sponsor of the Youth Tour since 1963.More than 3,400 students have been sponsored on trips to the nation’s capital in the last fifty-six years.
